This BlackBerry smartphone is smaller then its original predecessor. At 109 x 60 x 14.1mm and 122g, the Bold 9700 is certainly more pocketable and is even smaller and lighter than the BlackBerry Tour. It also weighs you down less. Some may find a larger design to be comforting, but that is a matter of personal preference. The side buttons blend in more then previous models which makes the phone look more together and up to date.
The BlackBerry 9700 features many of the same side buttons that most BlackBerrys have. The convenience buttons are on the left and right, the volume rocker is on the right, and the charger port is on the left along with the 3.5 headset. The convenience keys can be programmed for immediate access to a favorite application or to the camera. A camera with a flash is located on the back and the unlock and mute keys are located on the top.
The track pad is more responsive then track ball. The track ball, a navigation tool that is much like a computer mouse, has received many complaints. It can be hard to move at times and it slowly moves the cursor. Sometimes the cursor passes over the desired destination because you were pushing it too hard. The track pad is a touch navigator that eliminates the ball while keeping the familiar feel of the BlackBerry with a navigation tool in the middle above the keyboard.
The SD card is located above the battery. It has very easy access; you may simply push it to have it slide out to a point from which you can grab it. To put it back in you slide it back in a little and then push it and it will click into place. SD cards can be a pain, so this easy access will be refreshing to many.
The phone also offers bluetooth, GPS, faster updates, and blackberry operating system 5.0. 5.0 is one of the newer OS and it allows for easy, stress free web browsing. The close keys on the keyboard may be an annoyance to some, but a raised edge allows you to feel them apart with your thumbs. The keyboard may be small according to some, but I don't think it causes any notable problems.
The camera does autofocus, but it is still isn't that powerful compared to other cell phone cameras. The Bold 9700 has a 2.44-inch display (compared with 2.75 inches in the previous version) but its 480 x 360-pixel resolution at 245 pixels per inch certainly keeps things clear and sharp. It displays colors well even in sunlight. The 9700 is a solid BlackBerry.
May be useful... ^_^
